There are rain jackets, and there are shells. Fisher + Baker produce shells, and a collection of REALLY nice outerwear. I first came to know them a year or so ago when I saw one of their trench coats. While I’m not a trench guy, I was super impressed with the construction, the cut, the shade of blue, and the plastic knob buttons. I didn’t forget about this brand.
They recently released their new Kensington Shell with similar construction, which is much more my speed. I actually wear a windbreaker quite a bit, especially this time of year when it’s cool in the morning and we decide to take our boy to the Zoo, or I want to get out on the water. It has all the normal shell features: zippered pockets, adjustable cuffs, waist, and hood.
Where the Kensington separates itself is in the fabric and the cut. The fabric is the same cotton fabric that is used to shield the Royal Air Force. Pretty cool. The blue is just the right shade – not too Navy, and not Royal. The fit is a modern cut. I would explain it as a functional, active cut that has a trimmer fit in the chest and body, higher armholes that are good for chasing kids or casting a fly rod, and the sleeves are just the right length.
From a functional standpoint, this shell checks all the boxes: it’s windproof, water resistant (which means it’s breathable), and it has a lifetime warranty (which makes the price much more palatable). I like it. Here is some eye candy:

Superb details!
Can you wear a vest under the jacket? Or do you need to si zen for layering?
Looks like a great jacket.
It definitely looks good, but $378 is kinda steep for something that’s nothing more than a thin windbreaker.
