The B. Nelson Resole Experience: The Results

Look what arrived, ten days after I sent them up to B. Nelson in NYC?  My Alden 662 loafers, resoled and polished.  I did a ‘before’ post here, showing their current condition.  I’m proud to say, the results are outstanding.  I’m very happy.

To recap, I opted for a resole, and upgraded the soles to the JR leather soles.  They are super nice, and everything you’d expect from a high-end shoe repair company.  The polish job is great.  I should caveat that I really like the patina on these loafers.  I didn’t want brand new tassels, especially in this shade.  I wanted them to keep the look they had, just shined up.

I would definitely recommend B. Nelson for a resole job.  The time to repair, and the job are first rate.  Here are the results:

Do you have any experience with B. Nelson?  I’d love to hear your story.

Curious as to why you didn’t choose to send to Alden for restoration?  At the $175 price, it’s hard to beat. I’ve seen results on a pair of shell cordovan oxfords and it was outstanding.

I’ve used Alden in the past, and agree that they do outstanding work.  I didn’t want to wait 2+ months to get the shoes back.

I thought about that after I sent the previous message. Fair point

I am having a problem with Allen Edmonds at the moment with a pair of Grayson’s I recently purchased. One tassel started to fall off and I sent them in for a month and got them back unrepaired. I called and they had no clue what happened. Sent them back again and am currently waiting.

I have used B Nelson before and had mixed results. The JR soles are a must and I’m glad you decided on them. The Shoemart in Norwalk, CT, will do an authentic Alden resole for you as well. They’ll also add a Commando sole to a shoe that never had one – that’s something that Alden still refuses to do. The Shoemart also offers a quick turnaround similar to B Nelson. I’m glad these worked out for you – now go wear the hell out of them!

On a side note, B Nelson will install a Dainite (red or black) sole on your Alden’s which is also another option if you’re interested. I’m not sure of anyone else who will do that.

I get the send away for a refurb- but for a resole, what is wrong with Bennies or other local cobblers?
