Summer Date Night (Casual)

Date nights…a key element to a happy relationship.  Especially for those couples with small children.  Mrs. RCS try to get out quite a bit and always enjoy hanging out.  Summer is in full swing, so we do more casual dates.  Lots of porches (in the shade), iced drinks, and lighter fare.  While we both enjoy dressing up, dressing more casually still works.

Here is a good example of my get-up:

From top left:

1. 100 Hands Chambray Shirt:  I recently got my first 100 Hands shirt from Louie, and it’s probably the nicest shirt I own.  The chambray is perfect, and the construction is the finest I’ve experienced.  It’s a perfect shirt for this time of year…and looks as cool with the sleeves rolled up.
2. Orvis Bandana:  Being that I have a tendency to sweat, I always keep one of these in my back pocket.
3. Vintage Omega Seamaster:  Something lighter for this time of year (vs. the big GMT/Diver).
4. Jack Donnelly Cone Mills Natural Selvege Denim:  Lighter denim is a great look in the summer months.  It gives off a coastal/breezy vibe that looks great when tailored appropriately.
5. Garrett Leight Sunglasses:  Gotta have a good pair of shades.
6. Blair’s Belts Candler Glazed Alligator Belt:  Don’t be afraid of exotics, as they pair well dressed up (obviously) AND dressed down.
7. Res Ipsa Handwoven Sneaker:  Being that I’ve been a huge Res Ipsa fan and supporter since the beginning, I always love adding more to the collection. I recently added a pair of their sneakers, and they are a SUPER cool look (sans socks) during the warmer months.  Mrs. RCS approves.

What did I miss?

Can you also use the bandana to dry your tears if you spill something on your $554 (!!!!!!!!) chambray shirt?

At that point you use it to hang yourself.

Hahaha. Bury me in my 100 hands chambray shirt.

Haha…it’s funny about the 100 Hands shirts. The price is high – being that it’s handmade is somewhat of a justification, but most upper-end men’s stores can’t keep them in stock. Crazy world we live in.

I had to double-check that 100 hands shirt price, whew! Then again, a big reason I enjoy this blog is seeing things that I, personally, would not choose to wear or use. Always nice to see what’s out there.

34Heritage makes a great lighter weight 5 pocket that not only breathes, but can hold a pressing without wrinkling too easily. Variety of fits from slim to classic. I’ve been seeing this brand more and more in men’s shops where I live.

For warm weather date nights, I still enjoy the form and functionality of a sport coat, and I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of the unlined OTR options from Onward Reserve. At just under $600, they’re a tremendous value prop. Sid Mashburn has some great ones as well, and they’re at steal during their summer sale.

Well-timed as my wife and I have a date night this Friday. Here’s a question to the RCS community….dinner is at a BYOB Italian restaurant. It’s going to be in the mid-90s….any recommendation for a food friendly wine that won’t make me feel like melting asphalt? Cheers.

Man that brings me back to a time when my hometown didn’t have any alcohol by the glass and everywhere was BYOB. The 80s were a great decade.

Don’t drink red wine in a desert…sounds like a white (pinot grigio) or even a rose’ is the way to go. Rose’ will be a bit more versatile with white and red meats, especially a pinot noir rose’.

If you do bring a red, I suggest a fruit-forward Pinot Noir, which will taste a lighter than a cab or merlot.

I, of course, defer to the vinophiles that follow RCS.

The website “Wine Folly” has been a great resource for me.

If you are going fish, chicken, or something with white sauce the Pinot Grigio’s or even an Pinot Gris is the best option. If you want something a bit more versatile I agree with the Rose onion. A local vineyard here in NC makes a Cab Franc Rose that is amazing. It is by far my favorite warm weather wine.

    I won’t comment on the shirt…

For the watch a leather strap in this heat is a big no-no. I would suggest you go over to CNS Steps and find a NATO with stripes to match the shoes you have listed.
