Tecovas Caiman

By now most of you are aware of Tecovas, and quite a few of you already have a pair (or two).  I’ve been wearing my Dukes for quite some time, and absolutely love them.  They were broken in out of the box, and the roper style is extremely versatile.  I get comments on them all the time, and it’s very common to see admirers wearing a pair a couple weeks after I pointed them in the Tecovas direction.

Good news: Tecovas has stepped it up another level.  Today, their caiman alligator selections hit the market.  Available in both cowboy and roper style, and in chocolate and black.  These look outstanding:

The Dillon is the flagship exotic cowboy boot, featuring caiman alligator belly hand-lasted in a timeless cowboy profile. An angled heel and signature Tecovas hand-corded calfskin shaft complete the elegant exotic profile.  The Cole is an exotic roper boot, featuring caiman alligator belly hand-lasted in our classic roper profile. A shorter heel and simple, elegant calfskin shaft showcase our flagship exotic leather in a classic profile.

The caiman alligator belly leather is an incredible leather for a number of reasons:  The size of the skin matches the size of the boot, which creates a beautiful symmetrical (and unique) pattern on each boot.  The belly part of the animal is the softest, and they use the softest tanning methods without affecting durability, so this boot is equally comfortable as all of their incredibly glove-like boots (ostrich and calfskin).  The hides are Colombian origin and are tanned by Tecovas’ world-class exotic tannery partner in Leon, where they are handcrafted in the same 200+ step process as the rest of their western boots.

The out of the box experience is exactly what I had with my Dukes.  They were already soft and broken in.  The construction is extremely solid, and the chocolate brown is just right.

From a sizing perspective, I ordered the same size as I did my Dukes (ropers).  I’ve heard recommendations on getting a half size up in a cowboy boot vs. a roper, but that’s not the case with Tecovas Dillons.

The price point is very strong for a pair of caiman alligator boots.  As with most things Tecovas, they are an outstanding value proposition (2x – 3x more).  I will never recommend another pair of boots.
